Ion Beam Astrophysics Laboratory

Description

The apparatus includes powerful ion sources produced from solid or gas phase substances. Ion optics and a high resolution mass selector allow to obtain a highly collimated beam of selected ions, which crosses with the gas beam under high vacuum and single collision conditions. Using mass spectrometry, product fragments resulting from ion-gas interactions are analysed. The luminescence produced by the collisions is also studied. The laboratory enables studies of fragmentation processes in collisions of atom ions and particles with gases within the energy range 30 keV.
